Location: The land of composite cultures is situated in the heart of desert of Rajasthan. Ajmer is flanked by the Ana Sagar Lake on one side and the Arvalli hills range on the other. The climate is mostly hot and the two rivers are important water sources, the Luni and the tributaries of the river Banas. |
Description: The city was founded by Raja Ajaipal Chauhan in the 7th century and continued to be the major centre of power till 1193 A.D. when Prithviraj Chauhan lost it to Mohammed Gaur. Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage place for the Hindus as well as the Muslims. The famous Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti is in Ajmer and is popular among the Hindus and the Muslims equally. It is known as the final resting place of the Sufi saint. It is centre of culture and education. The annual urs at the Dargah is held on a grand scale which attracts pilgrims from all over the world.
